> Dude Martin broadcast a live daily one hour show on KLX 980...
A slight correction: KLX, which was owned by the Oakland Tribune's Knowland family and was located in the Tribune Tower, actually broadcast on 880 AM in the 1930s, then moved to 910 AM in 1941.
The station later became KEWB ("Channel 91") and KNEW; it currently uses the KKSF callsign.
KLX had hired Clifton Johnsen (a/k/a "Cactus Jack") to program the station. He saw the popularity of Western Music among the displaced Cotton Belt émigrés that had arrived in the Eastbay during and after World War II, and began programming more of this style of music during that time.
Black Jack Wayne (Jack Thurman Shults) was among the personalities that Cliff Johnsen hired at KLX. Cliff was also instrumental in putting together the deal to get Bob Wills' "Tiffany Transcriptions" recorded and syndicated.

Thank you Dave! The correction was made regarding KLX. Corrections always appreciated.
